When replacing a module is not enough
Board-level diagnosis is useful when a device has no power, will not charge, restarts, has a short circuit or still fails after known external parts are tested.
- No power or incomplete startup
- Charging and power rail faults
- Short circuits and overheating
- Liquid-related corrosion
- Damaged connectors and pads
- Data recovery assessment
What the symptom usually suggests
A symptom narrows where to measure first. It does not confirm the fault, and we test rather than assume, but knowing what happened shortens the diagnosis.
- No sign of life at all. Often a short circuit on a power rail or a failed charging circuit. We measure current draw before anything is opened further.
- Powers on but the screen stays dark. This can be the display, its connector or the board. We test against a known-good display before assuming board damage.
- Restarts or boot loops. Usually unstable power delivery or a component that fails once it warms up.
- Charges only in certain positions, or gets hot while charging. Typically the charging circuit or its connector rather than the battery alone.
- Warm to the touch while idle. A short circuit drawing current with nothing running.
- Worked after a drop or liquid, then failed later. Progressive damage. Corrosion and cracked joints often take days or weeks to show.
Measure before soldering
We begin with inspection and electrical measurements. Schematics, known-good parts and microscope work help isolate the affected circuit. Only then do we discuss component replacement or microsoldering.
Board work is diagnosis-led. A prior repair attempt, missing components or widespread corrosion can change the available options.
What board work cannot fix
Component-level repair extends what can be saved, but it is not unlimited. We would rather tell you where the limit is than charge for work with no realistic outcome.
- Boards with widespread corrosion across multiple circuits
- Lifted or missing pads from an earlier repair attempt
- Physically cracked boards, where the damage runs through internal layers
- Components that are not individually available or replaceable
- Cases where the repair cost approaches the value of the device
A device that has already been opened elsewhere is not refused, but previous work changes what is possible. Tell us what was done before, including attempts that did not succeed.
Repair and recovery are different goals
A stable daily-use repair and a temporary data recovery result are not the same outcome. If the priority is data, tell us before work begins so the diagnostic path can focus on safe access and backup.
An assessment looks at whether the storage and the circuits it depends on survived. On some boards the fault sits away from the storage, and access becomes straightforward once power is restored. On others, particularly after seawater exposure, the damage runs through the paths the storage depends on, and there is no safe route to the files.
Where access is possible, a recovery result is not the same as a working device. We may be able to reach the data without the device ever returning to normal daily use, and that is often the right outcome when the photos matter more than the phone itself. Have somewhere ready to receive the files, such as a laptop or an external drive.
Do not erase, restore or repeatedly power a failing device if the data is important. See data recovery in Canggu for what an assessment covers.
Before you come in
Board diagnosis depends heavily on history, and the device cannot tell us what happened to it. A few minutes of context often saves hours of measurement.
- Whether the device was exposed to liquid, and which liquid
- Whether it was dropped, and roughly when
- Whether anyone has opened or repaired it before
- What the device did immediately before it failed
- Whether the data inside is the priority
- The charger, if the fault involves charging or a laptop
Stop powering the device on to check it. Each attempt draws current through a circuit that is already failing, and on a liquid-damaged board that can reduce what is recoverable.
The fault defines the quote
Component-level work depends on the circuit, prior damage, parts and time required. The final price is confirmed after diagnosis and before repair approval.
Data recovery from Rp750,000
We explain whether the goal is a durable repair, a data recovery attempt or no further work. No recovery outcome can be guaranteed before assessment.
Board repair questions
Does Rp1,500,000 cover every board repair?
No. It is a starting guide. Component-level work depends on the circuit involved, prior damage, parts and time required, so the final price is confirmed after diagnosis and before you approve the repair.
Can you recover data from a device that will not switch on?
Sometimes. It depends on whether the storage and its supporting circuits survived. We assess first and explain what we find. No recovery outcome can be promised before that assessment, and we will say plainly when the chance is low.
How long does board work take?
Diagnosis and repair are quoted separately, and the time estimate is confirmed after the fault is isolated rather than from the symptom alone. Where a component has to be ordered, that waiting time is confirmed on its own.
Is a board repair permanent, or a temporary fix?
A correctly repaired circuit can return to normal daily service. Some results are genuinely temporary, particularly on corroded boards recovered for data access, and we tell you which of the two you are being offered before work begins.
Is board work covered by warranty?
The 30-day written warranty covers the specific work listed on your repair invoice, subject to the warranty terms and exclusions. Faults on other circuits, and later liquid-related damage, can fall outside that scope. Review the written terms before approval.
The initial check is free. What does that include?
The free initial diagnostic covers inspection and the first measurements needed to tell you whether board-level work is worth pursuing. You are told the findings and the total before any chargeable work starts.
Are you an Apple Authorized Service Provider?
No. Fixmara is an independent repair and retail store in Canggu. We are not affiliated with Apple and do not carry out repairs under Apple warranty.
